Asphalt Ventures
Track days ... Test & Tune ... Event Planning
Event Details
Asphalt Ventures events are non-instructed events unless otherwise noted, so a minimum of instructor, advanced, or intermediate level experience is required.  Intermediate drivers wishing to participate should have prior experience on the host track.  If you are unsure if you qualify, please email me before registering.

Your car must be inspected prior to attending any Asphalt Ventures event.  We will honor most HPDE tech inspections, however we prefer that you follow the Triangle Z Club/Tarheel Sports Car Club annual tech guidelines.  CLICK HERE to download the tech form.  Please email us ahead of time if you want to use a different tech form.  Ultimately, it is your responsibility to make sure your car is track worthy.  Asphalt Ventures reserves the right to refuse entry to any vehicle or individual that we deem unsafe.

Like any self-respecting track day organization, we have some basic safety requirements:
  1. Snell rated SA2000 or SA2005 spec helmet required
  2. Seat belts and passive restraint devices in good working order.  We Strongly Discourage the use of race harnesses unless they are mounted to a proper roll structure and used with race seats and a head & neck restraint device.
  3. Passengers are allowed ONLY under these conditions:
    • They are a paid participant, or
    • They check in with the Asphalt Ventures staff, sign the event and ride-along waiver, and pay the ride-along fee ($25), AND
    • They are of minimum age (18)
  4. Anyone wishing to give a ride must make sure that the passenger and driver have equal (if not identical) seat and restraint equipment
  5. Convertibles generally are not accepted at Asphalt Ventures events unless they have after-market, competition-ready 4 or 6 point structural roll bars.  Some factory convertibles may be approved on an individual basis with advanced notice and documentation that it meets structural requirements, and clearance requirements by Asphalt Ventures, and the host venue.  Please email us if you have a convertible you want to use during an Asphalt Ventures event.
Track Sessions:
  • Approximately 1 hour for each session.  There will be a checker flag thrown to end each session (forced break) and give the corner workers a break
  • Most events will have eight 1-hour sessions in which to drive.  At some smaller venues, or if we have a large number of attendees, we will split into two run groups and alternate hour-long sessions (VIR South for example is only 1.6 miles long)
  • If an event has instructed sessions as an option, some sessions will only be 30 minutes long in the morning.  Details will be given for those events.
  • Racing and overly aggressive driving will not be tolerated.  1st instance will be a black flag, 2nd instance you'll be asked to leave the event.
  • There will be a Two-spin rule in effect.  If you lose control of your car, either on or off track, twice, you will be parked.  Drive-offs do not count against you.
  • If you spin, or go 4-wheels off, you must pit in and report to the grid marshal so we can check over your car.
  • Driver's window will be required to be fully down while on track.  Some tracks may require passenger window to be down as well, even without a passenger.
  • Sunroofs, targa tops, and T-tops must be firmly secured or removed.
Flags/Corner workers
  • Paid corner workers, fire/rescue, and Advanced Life Support will be on hand at all Asphalt Ventures events.
  • You will receive detailed descriptions of the flags used and their meanings before you arrive.  Please read over it.
Passing
  • Passing rules at most venues will be as follows:
    • Any straight with a point, initiated by the passee
    • Passes MUST be cooperative.  No drag racing to the next braking zone.  Please lift to facilitate a clean and efficient pass.
    • Passes should be made offline, but it is always at the discretion of the the car being passed.
  • Passing will be executed with the point-by system:
    • To let someone by on the right: left arm extended over the roof hand pointing to the right side of the car.  One distinct point per car please.
    • To let someone by on the left: left arm extended straight out, pointing to the left.  Please make a distinct motion for each car being let by.
    • No flashing of lights or honking of horns to try to initiate a pass please.  If you want to run with your headlights on so people can see you better, that is acceptable.
    • Passing in turns:  Passing will be allowed in turns with the following stipulations:
      • It is BOTH party's responsibility to ensure the pass is completely safely and efficiently
      • Passes must be made with a point-by, no exceptions
      • There will be NO passing in turns during instructed sessions
    • Always work together to make the pass happen quickly and safely.
    • To Pit-in: left arm held high out the drivers window, clenched fist (cars behind you need to be able to see it, so hold it high, no resting on the door)
Car Numbers
  • You will be required to run numbers on your car for identification purposes
  • Since our events will usually be immediately before, or immediately after a DE event, please let us know what number you will be using for that event so you won't have to change
  • Numbers will not be provided, so be prepared with adhesive or magnetic numbers, or Blue painter's tape
Lunch
  • Food and beverages are usually available at the track.  Always come prepared though with water or Gatorade.
  • Lunch is NOT included in your entry fee... at least not yet.
If for whatever reason the event must be cancelled, your entry fee will be held for the next or rescheduled event.  At that time, if you cannot attend that event, the normal cancellation policy will apply.
